A Lesson on Gratitude

One spring day I was back in Cache Valley for a few things. I needed to go to Logan to a friend's reception but Curtis wanted to stay in Trenton and finish working on the tractors. That night we were to head back to Lehi so we were trying to decide how to meet up without me having to go back to Trenton. The original thought was that I would ride to Logan with Kent (The black car with the missing front). In the end I decided to just drive my car and someone would give Curtis a ride later. I changed into a dress so my phone was in my pants pocket which I had just shut into the trunk. I had a thought that I really should get the phone out because you never knew when you would need it to be handy. I got it out and had just finished clicking Kaitlyn into the car and was about to climb in when I heard an awful sound. Talk about slow motion. I looked up and heard a crunch and then what seemed like an eternity I saw a car fly past the drive way, fly off the side of the road, flipped three times and landed in the field upside down. I had always wondered what I would do in an emergency. I wondered if I would freeze up or if I would be able to use any of the training that I have received. Well the first thing that I was grateful for was that I had gotten my phone out so that I could dial 911 as I ran to the car. The driver kicked the door open and got out with some minor injuries. As I surveyed the scene I could see that my brother-in-laws front end was completely gone and dragged clear across the front yard. The second thing I am grateful for was that I was not in Kent's car. The third thing I am grateful for is that I took those few extra seconds to get my phone out of the car. If I would have left any sooner then I would have been right in the path of the car and it would have hit my side of the car and the whole thing would have been a lot worse. The fourth thing I am grateful for is that I had finished buckling my girls in so that I knew they were safe and couldn't go anywhere while I was trying to help someone. Hearing the cops talk about the incident they were surprised that that the girl lived through it. If she would have been any bigger (she was super petite) or not wearing her seat belt then she would have been crushed. While talking to Kaitlyn about the importance of wearing her seat belt, I hope that the real life incident will help her to remember to always wear one.

After a year and a half of intense looking, we were very happy to finally find a place to call home. It was a brand new home that had been empty for a few years. It was bank owned and they were anxious to get rid of it so it was a very good deal. We had talked to the builders a year before and they told us that they were willing to build us a house at cost. So we thought of building a home. We would have picked their smallest house plan and with no extra bonuses. However the house we ended up buying was cheaper then the what we would have built at the time, it is one of their bigger models and it has many of the perks we would have gone without. I guess being patient turned out to be a good thing. It has three bedrooms upstairs. We painted one yellow which right now is the play room and the other one is purple which is Kaitlyn and Madison's room. We also have an unfinished basement which is currently housing Curtis' office. When Curtis isn't working he is working on the basement.
